About
  What is the BTCC?

The BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) is the best-known Touring Car Championship in the world. It's one of the UK's largest and most exciting sports events. The countries fastest drivers battle
wheel-to-wheel, inches apart, at speeds up to 140mph.

The cars they race are highly modified versions of everyday road cars and the championship regularly attracts up to 40,000 spectators on race day. The racing is kept close and therefore unpredictable by the sporting regulations, many parts of the cars are standardized, and success ballast is used. There's also an exciting reverse grid race at each event.

  Race Weekend Overview

A BTCC race weekend consists of free practice and qualifying on Saturday, with 3 races on Sunday. The qualifying session decides the grid for race 1. The grid lines up for race 2 in the finishing positions from race 1.

Race 3 is the reverse grid race, the grid lines up as they finished race 2 with the exception of the top 6 – 10 places being reversed. The amount of the grid to be reversed is drawn at random by the race 2 winner.

Championship points are awarded based on the finishing positions in the races.
Additional points are awarded in each race for fastest lap and leading a lap.

  Cars Overview

Two specifications of car can enter the championship. ‘BTC Touring'
and ‘s2000'.

The BTC Touring regulations where brought in as a cost cutting measure in 2001. The s2000 regulations where developed around the same time by the FIA. These are the same specification of cars that run in the World Touring Car Championship. Each specification of car has its advantages.

To encourage more manufacturer involvement the BTCC is now placing more emphasis on the s2000 spec cars. From 2007 only s2000 cars can win the championship outright. The BTC spec cars are being phased out and will be subject to additional weight penalties if they win races
this year.
