| The
Dunlop British Touring Car Championship this weekend heads to
the Hampshire circuit of Thruxton and reigning champions, VX
Racing, are hoping that the fast, flowing track holds good fortune
for the Vauxhall team.
Despite not having the race pace at Donington Park that they
have enjoyed in the past few years, the VX Racing team scored
sufficient points at the East Midlands track to take the lead
in the manufacturers' championship.
Yvan Muller led the VX Racing charge for the season opener,
and is hoping for more progress with the new car to be on display
at Thruxton.
"With each lap we learn more about the balance and set-up
of the car," explains Muller. "We have used the information
and data from Donington and the team has worked hard preparing
for Thruxton. It's always good to win at the first event, but
there's nine more rounds to go, and we have a good programme
of developments. There is no way we will settle for anything
less than the top."
Whilst Muller took a race victory at Donington, team-mate Colin
Turkington didn't have the best of race days, which contrasted
with his fine pole performance on the Saturday. This weekend
he's hoping for better things.
"I'll be looking to finish on the podium at Thruxton and
really get my season going," said Colin. "After getting
pole position, I was hoping for a lot more, but it was only
the first race of the season, there's a long way to go. The
car has the speed; we now need to convert that into race performance."
Third driver Gavin Smith also has high hopes. "At Donington
I was aiming for a top six finish in one of the races, so to
get two top six finishes was more than I could ask for. At Thruxton
I'll be aiming for a little bit higher, maybe even a podium."
