Adam: We're working hard to step up - 5th November 2007

Jonathan Adam admits he is working hard to secure a drive in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship for 2008 on the back of his title winning campaign in the new look SEAT Cupra Championship.

The Scot, who finished third in the standings in 2006 after stepping up as the Clio Cup champion, emerged as the man to beat in the first season for the new Leon Cupra as he stormed to the title by nearly 100 points from nearest rival Fluvio Mussi – with nine wins and 17 podiums over the course of the year.

His reward for that success was a test with the SEAT Sport UK BTCCsquad at Rockingham and a cheque for £100,000 – with 2006 champion Mat Jackson having used his prize money from last season to purchase the BMWthat carried him to two wins on his first year in the touring car arena.

Having taken to the track at Rockingham last week for the touring car test, Adam admitted he was pleased with how things had gone on track and said that he was working hard to try and secure a deal to follow Jackson in stepping up as champion.

“It's gone well,” he told Crash.net Radio. “Last year I did the test so the second time round it is a little easier and today has been good for us weather wise. We have progressed throughout the day and the run on new tyres was very consistent.

“The plan for next year is to try and break into touring cars. We have had a cracking season this year with nine wins and 17 podiums and have been very consistent and I feel that we are ready to make that initial step. It is just hard to get that initial opportunity and this test has gone well so hopefully something might come of it. But we'll have to wait and see.

“We are working hard behind the scenes to try and make it happen Touring cars is an expensive business to get into and hopefully we'll be there one day. We are trying as hard as possible.”
