Jason Plato upped the pace in second HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship practice at Snetterton, bettering the time set by his SEAT team-mate Darren Turner from session one.
Plato, in his turbo-diesel Leon TDI, set a quite remarkable lap of 1m11.421s to top the session, with Turner next up on 1m11.603s – not quite able to match his 1m11.512s from this morning.
This time at least three other drivers did break the 1m12s barrier, they being Colin Turkington (Team RAC BMW 320si), Gordon Shedden (Team Halfords Honda Civic) and Tom Onslow-Cole (Vauxhall Vectra VXR). Notably, Shedden spent the last half of the 40-minute session pounding round, lap after lap, as if to simulate a race distance run.
After his crash this morning, Mat Jackson returned to the track in a ‘good as new’ BMW 320si to set the eighth fastest time.
And after their morning bothers, championship leaders Fabrizio Giovanardi and Matt Neal appeared to enjoy a trouble-free session, setting the tenth and 12th fastest times in their Vectras.
The only incidents of note during the session were a brief stoppage to allow marshals to replace a dislodged corner marker and a spin for Andrew Jordan (John Guest Honda Integra) at the Esses.
