| As the fourth round of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship approaches this weekend at Oulton Park, it will once again be another venue missed by the KWR Sport team this season – but this time not due to team owner and driver Jason Hughes’ ongoing
knee injury.
Outside of racing in the British Touring Car Championship, Hughes operates his own Karting circuit (KWR Karting) in Burscough, Lancashire, and will shortly be opening a new service centre on the same industrial estate to specialise in the servicing and maintenance of Rover cars for the now defunct car manufacturer and involvement with the new and old MG models.
“I’ve had so much going on recently and although spending the weekend in the race car at Oulton Park would be great – prior working commitments mean that I will be unable to be there this weekend.” said Hughes.
“There has been so much planning involved, with moving the KWR Karting business from the old site to the new, and with the preparation of new venture too. The team have had many long days and nights working with me to get this set up and running.”
KWR Sport is one of the smallest teams in the paddock consisting of a handful of staff who give up their weekends to help Jason race in the UK’s premier series.
Oulton Park is Hughes’ home circuit. Last year saw one of his best performances in the Bio-Ethanol powered MG, running as high as seventh and battling with Stephen Jelley’s Team RAC BMW and Rob Collard’s Motorbase-run BMW for a number of laps to eventually take tenth place and earn a single point in the final race of the day.
Looking ahead in 2009 – and with his knee injury which has stopped him from racing so far this season, now signed off by the medical team – it looks like the KWR Sport MG driver should make a return to the BTCC in the coming rounds.
A grateful Hughes also admitted: “I have to be so thankful to my sponsors, partners and fans for being so patient. The time I have had out of the car so far in 2009, has really shown to me, the dedication to motorsport that the BTCC fans have, with so many kind words
and messages.” |
