Rick Kerry has formed his own team, AFM Racing to run a diesel BMW 1 Series in the BTCC. This will be the first time a diesel powered car has competed in the BTCC, the car has been converted from endurance racing to s2000 spec. Kerry chose the 1 series in the hope the compact shape will be better suited to the tight and twisty uk tracks.
Rick is following in the footsteps of Martyn Bell having won the Kumho BMW Championship prior to moving up to the BTCC.
2007 saw Kerry gradually getting more pace from the BMW, for 2008 the plan is to expand to a two car team with Nick Leason. This should accelerate the pace of development. The team have decided not to register for the championship yet, to avoid the testing restrictions.
